Honest answers to
hard questions

We know this process comes with anxiety and uncertainty. These are the questions we hear most — answered plainly.

General

adoptoday is a licensed adoption facilitation platform. We coordinate the vetting, matching, and legal paperwork for domestic adoption and gestational surrogacy. We are not a traditional adoption agency — we are a technology platform built around a licensed facilitation practice, with a network of attorneys, social workers, and counselors.

No. We are not a law firm and do not provide legal advice. We provide legal document generation tools and connect all parties with licensed adoption attorneys in their state. Each party retains their own independent legal counsel.

We facilitate domestic adoptions in all 50 states. For surrogacy, we operate only where surrogacy agreements are legally enforceable. When you create a profile, we automatically verify which services are available in your jurisdiction.

Adoption typically takes 6–18 months from profile creation to finalization. Surrogacy typically takes 12–24 months including the medical process. We give you a personalized estimate at the start of your application.

Adoption

Eligibility varies by state, but generally: single adults and couples of any structure, adults 21 or older, with stable housing and income. We support all family configurations. Criminal history requirements vary — minor offenses don't automatically disqualify you. The platform checks your state's specific rules automatically.

Yes — a home study is required in all domestic adoptions. A licensed social worker evaluates your household, interviews all adults, reviews finances, and submits a report. We coordinate this with a licensed provider in your state. It typically takes 4–8 weeks.

Once approved, a case coordinator reviews your profile and preferences alongside available placements. Matches are never presented as a browse-and-choose gallery — you receive a thoughtful, curated match presentation. You have the right to decline any match without explanation.

If a child bearer changes their mind before consent is signed, that is their legal right. Your file remains active and we continue working to find the right match. Your platform fee is not refunded, but there is no additional charge for continued matching support.

Yes. adoptoday does not discriminate based on sexual orientation, gender identity, or family structure. Nationwide, same-sex couples have the same legal adoption rights following the Obergefell ruling.

Child bearers

Yes, completely. Child bearers pay nothing to use adoptoday. Platform costs are covered by adoptive families. You also have access to free independent legal counsel and counseling support.

Before you sign legal consent documents, you can withdraw at any time for any reason. After consent is signed, state law governs revocation — most states have a window of 30–90 days. We explain your state's specific rules before you ever sign anything.

Open, semi-open, and closed adoptions are all fully supported. We document and facilitate whatever arrangement both parties agree to.

As permitted by your state's law, adoptive families may cover pregnancy-related medical expenses, counseling costs, and certain living expenses during pregnancy. Paying beyond these permitted categories is illegal, and we never facilitate any such arrangement. All transactions are documented transparently.

Surrogacy

adoptoday only facilitates gestational surrogacy, where the surrogate has no genetic connection to the child. The embryo is created from the intended parents' material (or donors) and implanted via IVF. Traditional surrogacy is legally complex and we do not support it.

It depends. Laws vary widely by state. Some fully support commercial surrogacy; others restrict compensation; others make agreements unenforceable. Our platform automatically checks your state's current status before proceeding.

Total surrogacy costs typically range from $80,000 to $150,000+, including surrogate compensation, medical costs, legal fees, and the platform fee. This varies based on your location, fertility clinic, number of IVF cycles, and surrogate compensation. We provide a detailed cost estimate before you commit to anything.

The platform

Absolutely. All data is encrypted at rest and in transit. We are HIPAA-compliant for medical information. Identifying information is never shared with any other party without your explicit consent.

No. Technology helps organize information and flag compatibility signals, but every match is reviewed by a human case coordinator before being presented. No automated system places a child in a family. That decision always involves a person.

Your case coordinator is your direct contact throughout. You can also reach our support team 24/7. For disputes, we have a mediation protocol that resolves most issues quickly before involving attorneys.
